will learn how to obtain a good driving position by using the variety
of seat adjustments (including head restraints). You will also learn
the other adjustments and safety checks that will have to be applied
before starting the car. |
| Controls and Instruments |
| This
part covers the functions of the accelerator, brake & clutch
(A.B.C) including other controls and instruments inside the car. |
| Moving away & stopping |
| You
will be taught how to move off and stop safely by coordinating the
appropriate controls and how to apply the MSM routine. (Mirror, Signal,
Manoeuvre) |
| Safe positioning |
| You will learn how and where to position the car on a variety of different roads. |
| Mirrors - vision & use |
| This section covers when and why mirrors should be used. |
| Signals |
| You will be taught why signals are necessary, how and when to give them and how sometimes signals are unnecessary. |
| Anticipation & Planning |
| You
will need to be able to assess risk in connection with other drivers,
cyclists, motorcyclists, pedestrians, animals, road works, emergency
vehicles and other road users. |
| Use of Speed |
| You
will learn how to travel at an appropriate speed for different road
types and conditions taking not only speed limits into account. You
will have to know the importance of making progress and avoiding undue
hesitancy. |
| Other traffic |
| You will learn how to meet, cross and overtake other traffic on a variety of different road types. |
| Junctions & Roundabouts |
| You will be taught how to approach and negotiate all different types of road junctions. |
| Pedestrian Crossings |
| You will learn how to approach and cross all of the different types of pedestrian crossings. |
| Dual Carriageways |
| You will learn how to travel safely along dual carriageways. |
| Emergency Stop |
| You will learn how to avoid having to do an emergency stop but also how to do actually do one. |
| Manoeuvring the car. |
| You
will be taught how to reverse the car including around corners. How to
turn the car around in the road and how to park the car in a bay and
parallel. |

Other
topics that will be covered include driving during the hours of
darkness, taking into account weather conditions, legal
responsibilities and environmental issues. |
